  • The Design: The reverse face features a large, stylized letter "M"

, which was originally the Byzantine denomination marker for 40 nummi (a Follis).
  • Historical Context: Following the early Islamic conquests of the Levant, the Umayyad Caliphate initially continued to strike bronze coins that closely copied existing Byzantine types before transitioning to purely epigraphic Arabic designs.
  • Condition: The coin displays a notable green cuprite/malachite patina (frequently called bronze disease where bright blue-green speckles flake away) along its edge and surfaces, sitting on top of an irregular, hand-struck bronze flan.
